so I'm sitting here in my studio, listening to oid tapes of my band. Darn I was good. I got to thinking about old friends with whom I had played and toured. Many of those people are dead, andI have lost track of most of the rest.
Beside me is a steel guitar that I am trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to learn to play. behind me is my Fender Precision Bass. The Acoustic amp is in the other room, along with my fiddle, which I can play, and would be better if i were to practice. A nice Martin guitar that I bang on a bit, an electric piano that again, if I were to practice, would be able to play, and set up in the basement is a full set of PDP drums, that I play very well.
I was a fixture in several house bands in California in the 60s, 70s, and '80s, and have toured almost every state west of the Rockies with my own band, and front man for several others.
And I cannot get a gig.
I now live in a small town in Montana with a serious lack of places to play. There are some awfully good musicians here, but while they are friends, I am not in the clique.
almost no one here has heard me play. Some have heard my album that I cut in 1969, but that is old hat, and done by some has been.
I have played with a couple of garage bands, but they prefered people they knew.
So, I guess I'm just sitting on my figurative pot having a little pity party, but it's hard to not be able to do a thing that I devoted the majority of my life to.
Jeez it fun to get old.
But I really would love to get a gig.
